What's the difference?

Datacenter proxies are hosted in commercial cloud data centers. Their IP ranges are well-known to anti-bot vendors and trivially blocked. Residential proxies use IPs assigned by ISPs to real consumer devices, making them effectively indistinguishable from regular user traffic.

Datacenter pricing in 2026: $0.50–$1.50 per IP per month, or under $0.50/GB. Residential: $1.75–$15/GB. For a workload pulling 100GB/month, you're comparing roughly $50 of datacenter traffic to $200–$500 of residential.

When datacenter wins

High-volume scraping of unprotected targets (open APIs, public records, government data, niche e-commerce). SEO crawling of your own properties. Internal QA testing. Sneaker copping on certain sites where speed matters more than detection.

When residential wins

Anything touching Google, Amazon, social media, major retailers, ticket platforms, sports betting, dating apps, or sites behind a serious WAF. Also: any workload that can't tolerate getting silently fed shadow-banned content.
