How to verify a proxy is really working

Load this page twice: once with your proxy off, once with it on. If the IP, country and ISP all change on the second load, traffic is genuinely routed through the proxy. If any of the three stays the same, your client is either ignoring the proxy settings or falling back to a direct connection when the proxy errors - a silent failure mode that quietly de-anonymises entire scrape jobs.

Also check the network owner line. An ISP or organisation name belonging to a hosting company means you are on a datacenter IP, whatever the provider called the plan. A consumer ISP name is the signature of a genuine residential or ISP proxy.

Comparing IP location with browser signals

The timezone and language shown next to the IP data come from your browser, not from the network. Sites compare the two constantly. An IP in Tokyo paired with a Europe/London browser timezone is a contradiction no real visitor produces, and it is one of the cheapest checks an anti-bot system can run.

If the two do not match, either set your browser or automation profile to the proxy exit country's timezone and locale, or pick a proxy exit closer to your real profile. For a full picture of the other signals sites read, run our fingerprint checker.

What this tool cannot tell you

A clean IP result does not mean you are undetectable. IP is one signal among dozens: canvas and WebGL fingerprints, TLS handshake shape, request timing and behaviour all continue to identify you independently of the address you connect from. WebRTC in particular can leak your real IP while this page still shows the proxy address.

It also cannot tell you whether an IP is already burned on your target. A residential IP that geolocates perfectly may still have been rate-limited or flagged by that specific site through earlier abuse.
